be your own best friend by roshni

this is the first post i am CCPing from my frds wall have a good read.!!! *CCP= cut copy paste*

It is great to have best friends and close knit family  in life. A support system when you feel like you are running out of oxygen!
But it's important to be able to stand on your own two feet and walk with a straight head once you are breathing again or when the situation demands so. For this I believe the most important thing is to love your own self. No, don't think loving your self is being selfish... It is in fact the most selfless thing to do.... why, you may ask....

You're not doing anybody any good (even if your intentions are in place) by neglecting your needs to take on those of others. It's like they say on the plane, first place your oxygen mask, then help those around you. If you are trying to help someone else first and run out of air, then you're not doing anybody else any good.

If you had a healthier, more loving relationship with yourself, imagine how much better of a family member, friend, spouse, parent, employee and citizen you could be. Imagine the confidence this builds, the security, the self love, the compassion, the kindness, the patience...

Being your own best friend, you learn to forgive yourself... you learn to accept changes in life and to let go when it is needed. You learn to empathize rather than sympathize with people in pain around you. If you love your self then loving others becomes much more easier.... You see love as one of the most fulfilling emotion and do not confuse it with other emotions like anger, sadness, jealousy, or any such negative state of mind. Loving yourself helps you learn that love is all about having your mind at peace.... A logically how can anyone else love you... if you yourself don't see the best in you..how will someone else love you when you yourself can't love you....

I wholeheartedly believe that being able to be there for yourself at all times, and in all aspects of life is a life skill everyone should learn and master. It's not selfish because the long term effects are selfless. The better you can be for yourself, the better you can be for the rest of the world.
